Muscat/Moscato is not exactly a grape variety, but rather a long-established family of grape varieties that are widely planted around the world. This family of grape varieties includes more than 200 varieties of grapes. The common characteristic is a pleasant aroma, with rose, peach and apricot notes evident. These varieties include white grapes (Muscat Blanc a petits grains, etc.) and red grapes (Muscat of Hamburg, etc.).
The two main varieties in the Muscat family are Muscat Blanc a petits grains and Muscat of Alexandria, which has thin skins, small grains, and a strong, high quality aroma. Alexandria Muscat is popular for its thick skins, sparse clusters, large grains, light aroma, and disease resistance.
