Homemade wine is prone to mold growth and the use of incorrect containers

How much do you know about the dangers of homemade wine
Many of my Portuguese friends ask me how much wine is made in Portugal. Perhaps everyone thinks that making your own wine is cheaper, less adulterated and tastes better. But what you think of as green and natural home made wine can be very harmful.

1. Easy to breed mold
Wine grapes need high ripeness, no damage, no mold and other phenomena. Grapes are not easy to keep at room temperature, and easy to mold. If the freshness is not high, it is easier to breed mold in the wine. Therefore, we must choose fresh grapes. We cannot buy grapes at home and store them for a few days before we start winemaking.

2. Containers are prone to chemical reactions
Almost all wine is made in bottles, jars, barrels and vats at home, including glass bottles, Coke bottles and mineral water bottles. In fact, when making wine, it is best not to use plastic, stainless steel, or aluminum containers to avoid biochemical reactions and the production of harmful substances. Glassware is the best choice for making wine.

3. Too much sugar is bad for your health
In fact, most winemakers try to avoid sugar. In developed countries, there has been round after round of painstaking exploration to make wines with little or no sugar. However, in the home winemaking process, you can choose to add more sugar to aid fermentation. Wine itself is good for you. Even diabetics can drink it, but if you add too much sugar, it will be bad for you.

4. Fermenting wine at uncontrollable temperatures
Generally speaking, homemade wine can be consumed within a month. However, under normal circumstances, white wines need 3-4 months of fermentation time, and red wines need 1-2 years of fermentation time. The fermentation temperature should not exceed 20°C. However, home winemaking does not guarantee time and temperature.

5、Hidden dangerous substances
Homemade wine may contain methanol and miscellaneous alcohol oils, which have certain toxic effects on human body. At present, there is no process to remove methanol and methanol oil from home made wine, so some people have headaches and abdominal pain after drinking their own wine. In addition, because the hardware is not up to standard, it is impossible to realize the whole process of closed sterilization production, and it is difficult for home brewed wine to meet the hygiene standard, which may cause E. coli bacteria to exceed the standard and cause gastrointestinal discomfort.

6、Low phenol content
As for the nutritional content, according to the tasters, the phenolic content in home made wine is low, which is far from that of real dry red wine.
