Mulled wine (called glühwein in German) is the most popular red wine in Germany

Mulled Wine
Generally speaking, there are various Christmas markets in Europe (mainly in Germany, Austria and Northern Europe) during Christmas. People will meet up with friends and family to visit the markets, hold a glass of fragrant mulled wine, eat snacks, browse and buy some Christmas decorations and crafts – that’s the Christmas spirit!
Let’s see how modern mulled wine is made.

German Gluhwein
Of course, you should try German red wine first.
Boil a large pot and enjoy it!
Ingredients: (4-6 people)
Half a medium-sized orange
3/4 cup of water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
20 cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 stars of fennel
1 bottle (750ml) of red wine
(optional) appropriate amount of rum or Italian apricot wine
Bring your own Christmas spirit. Throw in some ingredients and it’s beautiful

Directions.
1: Cut the orange peel into wide strips, squeeze the orange juice and set aside.
2, add water and sugar to a small pot and heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
3, reduce the heat, add cloves, cinnamon, star anise, orange peel, orange juice, stew for about 1 minute, until the syrup is thick and fragrant.
4: Turn off the heat, pour in the red wine and simmer slowly for 20 minutes to several hours (check and stir from time to time to avoid boiling or charring).
5、Pour into a glass and finish (feel free to add rum or bitter apricot wine for decoration).

1. Choose a wine with a good price ratio
After all, there are so many spices that if you use a high quality wine, you won’t be able to taste the aroma of the wine itself, which is a waste. Of course, you can’t use a wine that is too bad, just drink it.

2. Heat the wine over low heat. Don’t boil it!
This is a very important point. If the temperature is too high, the alcohol will evaporate. It’s best to start with juice to create a non-alcoholic taste.
Sweden is also famous for its red wines. The main difference between Swedish and German reds is the addition of raisins and almonds, which add a special sweetness.
