Beginner’s knowledge of wine: sobriety, wine glasses, labels, are the most basic

Drinking temperature and what kind of wine needs to be served on ice?
It may only be spring, but the temperature is already high. I often see friends pulling wine out of the fridge and saying they don’t understand (black question mark face). Generally speaking, light white wines: 8-10 degrees. Full-bodied white wines 12-13 degrees. Light red wines: 10-13 degrees. Full-bodied red wines: 15-18 degrees. White wines need to be served on the rocks because of their low tannin content. When cooled, the acidity lasts and is fresh, whereas when red wines are cooled, the bitterness of the tannins is exacerbated.

What wines need to be sobered?
What is the effect of decanting? To make the wine taste better. decanting is the process of bringing a wine into contact with air to evaporate the harmful gases produced by the fermentation of the wine, to accelerate the softening of the tannins and to release the aromas of the wine. What kind of wine needs to be decanted? Dry red wines that have been fermenting for a long time need to be decanted. Generally speaking, table wines have a shorter fermentation time and can be decanted by placing them in a wine glass, while dry white, pink, sweet and sparkling wines do not need to be decanted.

What kind of wine and glass?
As you can see in the picture, the shape of the glass varies from wine to wine. A dry red wine requires decanting, so it is usually a large-mouthed glass. To reduce the evaporation of bubbles, bubbly wines are served in champagne glasses, dry white glasses and pink glasses in the middle.

What about wine labels?
Information about the quality of a bottle of wine is reflected on the bottle’s wine label. Generally, you can see the place of origin, the name of the producer, the name of the wine, when the grapes were harvested and some other information.

What is New World and what is Old World
The Old World refers to countries that made wine relatively early, such as France, Germany, Italy and other European countries. The Old World wine making process and classification is different from the New World.

New World refers to countries with a relatively short history of red wine making, generally not Australia, Chile, etc. Most of the New World winemaking is done with advanced modern tools. The flavor profile is relatively liberal, with more emphasis on the taste and batch production of the wine.

What should I drink when I start drinking?
I’m still a white wine drinker. I’m not very good at drinking. How should I drink wine? A white person who is just starting out and doesn’t know much about it, actually opens a bottle of Lafite for you. You will also find this wine sour and unpleasant to drink, not as strong as white wine, and not as refreshing as beer. So for white people, I recommend drinking dry white wines and wines from red wine producing areas.

Dry whites have fewer tannins and are relatively refreshing. The level of dry reds allows you to start getting used to the taste and smell of the wine. After you get started, you can start drinking some good wines, moving from regional to village and then to the great wines, tasting them slowly. (Natural taste buds are not suitable for this advice)
